Hexanes, also known as Hexane, is a commercial/industrial grade product made up of a combination of hydrocarbons containing six carbon atoms. Hexanes is a combination of hexane (>60% hexane contents) and variable quantities of isomeric chemicals such as 2-methylpentane and 3-methylpentane. It also contains traces of non-isomeric C5, C6, and C7 (cyclo) alkanes. Hexanes is frequently used as a non-polar solvent that is inexpensive, essentially non-reactive, and volatile. Lab grade chemicals possess reasonable purity but do not comply with any official standard for quality or purity like the ACS Grade, the USP Grade, or the FCC Grade. Hexanes, Lab Grade at Lab Alley is low in heavy metal impurities and highly recommended for educational institutes and research laboratories.
