Pure Calcium Carbide, a white and odorless solid, has the chemical formula CaC₂. Carbides of silicon, tungsten, and other are sought for their physical hardness, strength, and chemical resistance. Whereas, Calcium Carbide is largely used as a source of Acetylene and other chemicals. On a commercial scale, however, Calcium Carbide can have a range of uses depending on its level of purity. It is also known as Calcium Acetylide, Phenyl Glyceryl Ether Diacetate, and Glycerol Phenyl Ether Diacetate.
